Multi-talented in the field of graphic design, Edouard Benedictus (French, 1878-1930) produced portfolios of beautiful textile and wallpaper designs throughout the Art Deco period. His 1924 Variations contains twenty plates of his textile design executed in brilliant colors by Jean Saude using the pochoir technique, which involved the hand-coloring of the individual black outline prints. This ballpoint pen is developed from a detail of plate II in Variations, a copy of which is in the collection of The Metropolitan Museum of Art.
