The Shahnama (Book of Kings) of Shah Tahmasp (reigned 1524-76) is arguably the most luxuriously illustrated copy of the epic poem by Abu'l Qasim Firdausi (935-1020) ever produced. Considered among the highest achievements in the arts of the book, it narrates the history of the ancient kings of Iran in more than 700 folios of text accompanied by more than 250 paintings of exquisite quality and originality. Details from several paintings in the Museum's collection were adapted for the pen design. Gift of Arthur A. Houghton, Jr., 1970.

The highlight of the pen is the smooth twist-action ballpoint system, activated by turning the tip cone. The Metropolitan Museum of Art logo appears on the cap top. Brass base metal body with gold plate accents.

Handsomely packaged in a color coordinated paperboard gift box. Uses the smooth writing Waterford Ballpoint refills. One refill is included, installed in the pen. Limited 1 Year Warranty.
